I think this book review very well summarizes the authors main points. I think you could have commented on how the author’s background and other works might have impacted this book, instead of just mentioning them in passing. You did a good summary of the book, and hit the high points of the authors goal of expanding the historiographical commentary on the occupation of Boulogne. I also liked how you summarized the counterpoints that argued against the significance of the occupation of Boulogne to Early Modern English History. I agree with the strengths that you pointed out. I do think that Murphy did a good job of showing both sides of the story to give the reader a better idea of the historiographical work that has already been done on this topic.

Using the maps to drive further into those points were great. With Ireland, I struggled with this one. I understood what Murphy was going for here, the echoes of abuse/violence, but I feel like it sounded more of a comparison of struggles in a negative way. I read it as “yes the Irish suffered *BUT* not as bad as the French.” This could completely be me reading this in a different tone, but it was off putting. I saw it mostly in Chapter 2 (going into 3) and it could have been an attempt to fill in the gaps by comparison of other actions at the time but didn’t seem fully fleshed out to me
